Kestrel 22 - 'Caraway' - SOLD

Robertson’s Kestrel 22 sailing yacht for sale.  Owner’s move overseas forces very reluctant sale.

Caraway is possibly the “best kept example” of a Kestrel 22 which was originally designed in Woodbridge.

Robertson Kestrels were built in wood from the 1950s until late 1960s, the Kestrel was conceived as a small, inexpensive cruiser suitable for weekend sailing in shallow waters in the East of England.  It has a lifting keel with a minimum draft of just 71cm (2’4”) making it ideal for exploring the tidal waters of the Deben and beyond.

Caraway has three berths in two cabins and a good-sized cockpit.  In 2023 the owner had a brand new 10hp Beta Marine inboard diesel engine, gearbox and propeller installed at a cost of over £7,000.

The owner has also invested in many other upgrades including rewiring and fitting if NASA Marine depth sounder, log and wind indicator to make family and single-handed sailing easy and safe.   The rigging was upgraded to include a lazy jacks system and stack pack for easy stowage of the mainsail.  The foresail is a furling system.   All sails are manageable from the safety of the railed cockpit making the vessel very suitable for families with younger children or single-handed sailing.  She will perfectly suit a couple or small family looking for quiet river and estuary cruising.

Caraway has had lots of money spent on her with recent mast and boom woodwork being re-finished in long life varnish by Tidemill Yacht Harbour workshop.  and all necessary equipment is included in the sale.

Accommodation wise, Caraway has a small kitchen down below including sink and stove as well as a seating area with table in the main cabin and ample stowage.  She can be quickly set up to sleep onboard down below too making her perfect for camping out overnight on a mooring or at anchor.
